Our Approach
Philosophy & Approach
The Palestinian Counseling Center (PCC) adopts a holistic approach to mental health, recognizing the interconnected psychological, sociological, and political factors that shape the lives of Palestinians. Viewing individuals as complex social beings, the PCC addresses these overlapping dimensions to provide comprehensive support.
The PCC acknowledges the direct connection between the broader conditions of a community—at the macro or national level—and the well-being of its individuals. For a prosperous and sustainable Palestinian state, it is essential to ensure that the population has access to adequate psycho-social care. Additionally, the PCC confronts the political challenges—especially those stemming from the Israeli occupation—that negatively impact Palestinians' mental health. Through its programs, the PCC combines individual care, community-based activities, and advocacy at both local and international levels to mitigate these effects.
Guided by a rights-based approach, the PCC is committed to empowering the Palestinian community and promoting mental health as a fundamental human right. This perspective is rooted in the International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights, which affirms the right to “the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health.” The PCC emphasizes the importance of resilience-building and enhancing opportunities for individuals to access mental health care and well-being while holding stakeholders accountable for protecting these rights.
